On 10, 17 and 24 May 2026, the Mahidol Migration Center-Joint Research Unit (MMC-JRU), Institute for Population and Social Research (IPSR), Mahidol University, in collaboration with the Faculty of Physical Therapy Building, Mahidol Salaya; Ramathibodi School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, Salaya; and the Research Institute for Languages and Culture, Mahidol University, organized a three-day manual testing programme for 18 caregivers, including 11 Myanmar migrant workers and seven Thai caregivers.
Under the project “Caring for Work/Working for Care: Thai and Migrant Workers in Elderly Care,” the programme aimed to test a basic elderly care manual through practical demonstrations, hands-on activities, and group discussions. The sessions covered basic nursing care, infection prevention, physical therapy, safe patient transfers, communication, and caregivers’ rights and well-being.
The results showed positive learning outcomes, with all 17 participants who completed both pre- and post-assessments improving their scores. Participants appreciated the practical activities and Burmese interpretation, which helped them better understand the content. They also suggested using simpler language, adding more illustrations, and providing more time for practical exercises. Their feedback will help improve the manual and make it more useful and accessible for Thai and Myanmar caregivers.
